Why You Can't Delete or Edit an Item

Goal:

Understand why some items seem locked and how to get permission to change them.

You will need:

  • Logged into your household
  • The item you want to edit or delete

Follow these steps:

  1. 1Go to the bottom navigation bar, tap 'More', then tap 'Members'. Find your name on the list and look at your role (Owner, Admin, Adult, Limited, or Guest).
  2. 2If you are a Guest or Limited member, you can see shared items but cannot edit or delete them — these roles are read-only. Adult, Admin, and Owner members can change most household items.
  3. 3If an item belongs to someone else and you are a Guest or Limited member, you will not see an Edit or Delete button. That is why the buttons are hidden — your role does not allow it.
  4. 4If an item is marked as private (you will see a small lock icon), only the person who created it can change or delete it. Even Owners and Admins cannot edit private items.
  5. 5To edit or delete a shared item when you do not have permission, ask an Owner or Admin member in your household. They will see the Edit and Delete buttons and can make the change for you.
  6. 6If something seems broken or stuck and you believe you should have permission, contact support@homyiq.com with the name of the item and your role, and we will help.

You understand which roles can edit and delete items, and know how to ask for help when you need someone else to make a change.

  • Check who the Owner and Admin members are in your household.
  • Ask an Owner or Admin to change the item for you.
